LAS VEGAS (March 25, 2021) – Slay cancer with sabers! Tyler Robinson Foundation (TRF), the nonprofit organization of the GRAMMY® Award-winning band Imagine Dragons dedicated to supporting children battling childhood cancer, invites Beat Saber fans and TRF supporters to participate in a virtual fundraising tournament in partnership with the Charity Gurus. Dubbed “Slay Cancer with Sabers,” the virtual event will begin today, March 25 and will conclude with a live streaming event Saturday, June 5, 2021.
Fans and supporters from around the world can join in the fun to play solo or join a team to support pediatric cancer families. Beginning today, “slayers” can register for free at slaycancerwithsabers.org and all ages are welcome to participate. In honor of TRF’s eighth anniversary, $8 donations are encouraged. To play, fans will need to purchase Beat Saber, as well as a supported virtual reality headset. The Imagine Dragons band pack is available through the game at no charge. Two tournament winners will be named, determined by the amount of funds raised for TRF and the highest score.
Throughout the fundraiser, slayers can post their high scores on their profile pages and on the Slay Cancer with Sabers Facebook event group. Tournament winners will be selected, based by the amount of funds raised for TRF and the highest score, and will have a chance to compete in the live streaming event on Saturday, June 5.
Beat Saber is a unique VR rhythm game, where the goal is to slash the beats, represented by small cubes, as they are coming towards the player. Every beat indicates which hand to use and the direction to match the slash. The game can be easily described as a mashup of Guitar Hero and Fruit Ninja in VR. All the music is composed to perfectly fit the handmade levels. The goal is to make players almost dance, while cutting all the cubes and avoiding obstacles. Each cut is strongly supported by great sound and visual effects to emphasize the rhythm.
In the eight years TRF has served the pediatric cancer community, the nonprofit has provided support to more than 1,500 families around the globe and raised more than $10 million. Of every dollar TRF raises, more than 85% goes directly to families in need. For more information or to learn more about TRF, visit TRF.org and follow TRF on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
About Tyler Robinson Foundation
Tyler Robinson Foundation (TRF) helps strengthen families financially and emotionally as they cope with the tragedy of a pediatric cancer diagnosis by providing grants specifically to offset out-of-pocket life expenses. TRF is the nonprofit organization of the GRAMMY Award-winning, multi-platinum selling band Imagine Dragons. TRF meets a critical need in communities across the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Each year, one in 285 children are diagnosed with cancer. While many pediatric cancer organizations focus on growing awareness and support for families with the physical and emotional toll of a diagnosis, the huge financial hardship cancer treatment places on families is rarely discussed. More than 85% of every dollar TRF raises goes right to families in need. For more information visit TRF.org.
